Frequently asked questions

Common Questions About Studying at APU

What is the minimum English requirement to enter APU? +
APU generally requires IELTS 5.5 for undergraduate programmes and IELTS 6.0 for postgraduate. APU also offers an English Foundation programme for students who don't yet meet the language requirement. Contact us — we'll check your eligibility for free.
Can I work part-time while studying at APU? +
Yes. International students in Malaysia can work up to 20 hours per week during semester breaks and public holidays, and in approved on-campus or hospitality roles during term time. Confirm current immigration rules before accepting any employment.
Why are APU's fees higher than MMU's? +
APU's higher fees reflect its QS World University Ranking, larger international student body (130+ countries), and premium campus facilities at Technology Park Malaysia. If budget is a priority, MMU Cyberjaya offers very similar computing and business programmes at roughly 30% lower cost. We can help you compare both and decide which fits your goals and budget better.
What is the EMGS fee and how is it different from the APU registration fee? +
EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services) is the government agency that processes student visa applications. The EMGS fee (RM 3,500) covers your Visa Approval Letter, student pass, and insurance. The APU registration fee (RM 2,000) is a university administrative charge. Both are paid together along with the RM 1,500 deposit, totalling RM 7,000 upfront.
Is APU's degree recognised internationally? +
Yes. APU is fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and its degrees are recognised across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, UK, and Australia. APU's QS ranking further strengthens international recognition for graduates seeking employment or further study abroad.
How long does the student visa take? +
The EMGS process typically takes 4–8 weeks. You must receive your Visa Approval Letter (VAL) before travelling to Malaysia — you cannot convert a tourist visa to a student pass. We track your EMGS status and notify you as soon as your VAL is ready.
