Why choose MAHSA

Key Advantages for International Students

MAHSA is the go-to choice for students pursuing health science careers in Malaysia. Its depth in medical and health education, combined with strong international accreditations, makes it one of the most credible specialist health universities in Southeast Asia.

WHO-Listed MBBS & FAIMER Directory

MAHSA's MBBS programme is listed in the FAIMER World Directory of Medical Schools and recognised by WHO — ensuring that graduates can practice medicine or pursue postgraduate training internationally. The programme is also fully accredited by MQA and the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).

NMC India Recognition

MAHSA's MBBS is recognised by the National Medical Commission of India (NMC) — a key requirement for Indian students who plan to practise medicine in India after graduating abroad. This recognition makes MAHSA one of the preferred MBBS destinations for Indian international students in Malaysia.

48-Acre Campus — Self-Contained Community

MAHSA's main campus in Bandar Saujana Putra is a comprehensive 48-acre facility with teaching hospitals, clinical labs, student accommodation, a hotel, a sports stadium, and an international school all within the campus ecosystem — creating an unusually complete student environment.

MAHSA International School On-Campus

One of MAHSA's unique advantages for international students with families is MAHSA International School — located within the campus grounds. This allows parents studying at MAHSA to enrol their children in an international school without the cost and hassle of finding one elsewhere in KL.

4 Intakes Per Year

MAHSA offers intakes in January, March, June, and October — one of the most frequent intake schedules of any Malaysian private university. This flexibility minimises waiting time for students who receive their results at different times of year.

ODL (Online) Options for Health Programmes

MAHSA offers Online/Distance Learning (ODL) variants for several health programmes including Nursing (D2D), Physiotherapy, Medical Imaging, Environmental Health, and Biomedical Sciences — making MAHSA one of the few Malaysian universities offering online pathways in clinical health fields.

Frequently asked questions

Common Questions About Studying at MAHSA

What is the minimum English requirement to enter MAHSA? +
MAHSA requires IELTS Band 6 minimum for MBBS. For other health, engineering, and business programmes, IELTS 5.5 is typically required. If your English level is below requirement, we can help enrol you in an intensive English programme in Malaysia (typically 3–6 months) before proceeding to your main degree. Contact us for a free assessment.
Can I work part-time while studying at MAHSA? +
Yes. International students in Malaysia can work up to 20 hours per week during semester breaks and public holidays, and in approved on-campus roles during term time. For medical and health science students, study and clinical commitments are intensive — most MBBS and Pharmacy students focus entirely on their programme. Always confirm current immigration rules before accepting employment.
What qualifications are needed to enter MAHSA MBBS directly? +
For MBBS direct entry, MAHSA requires strong results in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics/Mathematics — typically A-Levels (3 subjects), IB (30 points with sciences at Higher Level), or equivalent. IELTS Band 6 is required for international students. Students who hold a Foundation in Science or a Diploma in Health Sciences with high CGPA may also qualify. Contact us and we will assess your qualifications for free.
What is the EMGS fee and how is it different from MAHSA's registration fee? +
EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services) is the government agency that processes all international student visa applications. The EMGS fee (~RM 3,500) goes to EMGS — not MAHSA — and covers your Visa Approval Letter, student pass, and insurance. MAHSA's registration and application fee is a separate university charge. Both are non-refundable. We will provide you with the exact payment sequence before you commit.
Is MAHSA's MBBS and health science degree recognised internationally? +
Yes. MAHSA's MBBS is listed in the FAIMER World Directory of Medical Schools and recognised by WHO and the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). All programmes are MQA-accredited. Health science degrees (Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Medical Imaging) are recognised by their respective Malaysian professional bodies. For graduates planning to practise in specific countries, additional licensing exams may be required — we advise on this during counselling.
How long does the student visa take and what is special about MAHSA's passport requirement? +
The EMGS process typically takes 4–8 weeks after MAHSA submits your application. Important: MAHSA requires your passport to have a minimum of 16 months validity from your entry date into Malaysia — check this before applying. You must receive your Visa Approval Letter (VAL) before travelling to Malaysia. We track your EMGS status and notify you as soon as your VAL is ready.
