Why choose SEGi

Key Advantages for International Students

SEGi's combination of scale, QS 5 Stars Plus recognition, and industry-integrated teaching makes it one of Malaysia's most compelling choices for international students who want a well-rounded education with strong career outcomes.

QS 5 Stars Plus — Only 2 in Malaysia

SEGi holds the QS 5 Stars Plus Rating — awarded to only 23 universities worldwide and only 2 in Malaysia. This distinguishes SEGi for exceptional performance in Teaching, Inclusiveness, Online Learning, Arts & Culture, Employability, Academic Development, and MBBS — making it one of the most comprehensively recognised private universities in Malaysia.

Industry in the Classroom

SEGi pioneered the concept of "Bringing Industry into the Classroom" — embedding real industry projects directly into student coursework, co-supervised and co-examined by industry professionals. Partners include Google, Microsoft, Realme, Huawei, and Malaysia Airlines, giving students live professional experience during their degree.

International University Partnerships

SEGi has partnerships with Abertay University (Scotland), University of Southern Queensland (Australia), University of Sunderland (UK), Upper Iowa University (USA), and York St John University (UK) — offering dual award and articulation pathways for students who want international degree recognition.

5 Campuses Across Malaysia

With campuses in Kota Damansara (main, near KL), Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya, Penang, and Sarawak — SEGi offers one of the most flexible multi-campus networks in Malaysia. Students can choose their preferred city and campus environment while studying towards the same qualification.

Medicine (MBBS) — QS 5-Star Recognised

SEGi's MBBS programme is specifically awarded a 5-star designation in the QS Stars system — recognising it as a standout medical education programme in Malaysia. SEGi's Faculty of Medicine has affiliations with WHO, MCI, and WACs, and has clinical training facilities across its campuses.

Competitive Fees & Wide Programme Range

From Foundation at RM 21,060–24,000 to Medicine at RM 359,800 and Postgraduate from RM 17,000 — SEGi's fee range covers nearly every budget. Non-medical programmes are priced competitively for the quality of facilities and industry integration on offer.

Frequently asked questions

Common Questions About Studying at SEGi

What is the minimum English requirement to enter SEGi? +
SEGi generally requires IELTS 5.5 for undergraduate programmes and IELTS 6.0 for postgraduate. Students who completed their education at an English-medium school may be eligible for an exemption. Contact us — we'll confirm the exact requirement for your chosen programme and campus, and advise on English preparation if needed.
Can I work part-time while studying at SEGi? +
Yes. International students in Malaysia can work up to 20 hours per week during semester breaks and public holidays, and in approved on-campus or hospitality roles during term time. SEGi's industry partnerships with companies like Google and Microsoft also create structured internship and project opportunities during the degree. Always confirm current immigration rules before accepting employment.
Which SEGi campus should I choose and does it affect my qualification? +
SEGi has 5 campuses: Kota Damansara (main), Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya, Penang, and Sarawak. The qualification and degree certificate are the same regardless of campus. Programme availability differs by campus — Kota Damansara has the widest range. We will confirm which campus offers your specific programme and help you choose based on location and budget.
What is the EMGS fee and how is it different from SEGi's admission fee? +
EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services) is the government agency that processes international student visa applications. SEGi's RM 3,150 upfront fee covers both the admission process and the EMGS visa application — making it one of the most straightforward and lowest-cost upfront packages of any Malaysian private university. This single payment secures your offer letter and triggers your student visa.
Is SEGi's degree recognised internationally? +
Yes. All SEGi programmes are MQA-accredited. SEGi holds the QS 5 Stars Plus Rating — one of only 23 universities globally and only 2 in Malaysia. This rating is awarded by QS across Teaching, Employability, Online Learning, Inclusiveness, and MBBS. SEGi degrees are recognised across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, UK (via Ecctis/NARIC), and Australia. MBBS is additionally recognised by WHO and WACs.
How long does the student visa take? +
The EMGS process typically takes 4–8 weeks after SEGi submits your application. You must receive your Visa Approval Letter (VAL) before travelling to Malaysia — arriving on a tourist visa and attempting to convert it is not permitted. Required documents include passport (all pages, minimum 18 months validity), academic transcripts, and a passport photo. We track your EMGS status and notify you as soon as your VAL is ready.
