Why choose UNITEN

Key Advantages for International Students

UNITEN is unique in Malaysia — a QS-ranked private university backed by a national utility giant, with unmatched industry connections in engineering and energy.

QS Ranked #551 Globally

UNITEN ranks #551 in QS World University Rankings 2026 and #36 in Southeast Asia — one of the few Malaysian private universities with genuine international academic standing. This strengthens graduate employability in the region and in the Middle East and Gulf countries.

Owned by TNB — Energy Sector Advantage

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia's national power utility, UNITEN students — especially in electrical and power engineering — get direct access to internships and employment within one of Southeast Asia's largest energy companies.

96.8% Graduate Employability

UNITEN's graduate employability rate of 96.8% within 6 months of graduation is among the highest of any Malaysian private university, and 94.5% per Ministry of Higher Education data. Business degrees include a full year of Work-Based Learning (WBL) in real industry environments.

5-Star SETARA Rating

UNITEN holds a Tier 5 (Excellent) SETARA rating from Malaysia's Ministry of Higher Education — the highest possible tier, confirming quality of teaching, research, and graduate outcomes across all programmes.

Two Campuses — Near KL & Pahang

The main Putrajaya campus (214 acres) sits near Malaysia's administrative capital, close to Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, and KL. The Muadzam Shah campus in Pahang offers a quieter study environment. Both have on-campus accommodation for 4,000+ students.

Competitive Fees for a Ranked University

At RM 64,000–96,000 total for most degrees, UNITEN's fees are significantly lower than Malaysian private universities of comparable ranking — making it exceptional value for Arab students seeking a QS-ranked engineering or computing degree.

Application process

How to Apply to UNITEN — Step by Step

We handle steps 3 & 4 for you at no extra cost.

1.Submit an Enquiry & Choose Your Programme

Tell us your academic background, preferred engineering or computing field, and budget. Our counsellors will confirm the right UNITEN programme and campus. This consultation is completely free.

1–2 days

2.Prepare & Submit Your Documents

Required: certified transcripts, valid passport (min. 18 months), English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL), and a passport photo. Engineering programmes require strong Maths and Science results. We provide a checklist and review everything before submission.

3–7 days to gather docs

3.Receive Your UNITEN Offer Letter

We liaise with UNITEN's International Office to follow up on your application. As a semi-government institution, processing typically takes 2–4 weeks after a complete submission.

2–4 weeks

4.Pay Registration Fees & Apply for Student Visa

Pay the ~RM 6,000 registration package. UNITEN submits your visa application to EMGS. We track this and notify you when your Visa Approval Letter (VAL) is ready — typically 4–8 weeks.

4–8 weeks for visa

5.Arrive in Malaysia & Enrol

Travel to Putrajaya with your VAL, get your student pass stamped, and attend UNITEN's orientation. We stay in contact throughout your first month to ensure a smooth start.

Frequently asked questions

Common Questions About Studying at UNITEN

What is the minimum English requirement to enter UNITEN? +
UNITEN generally requires IELTS 6.0 for undergraduate programmes and IELTS 6.5 for postgraduate. If your English does not yet meet this level, we can help you enrol in a pre-sessional English programme in Malaysia first — typically 3–6 months — before starting your degree. Contact us and we will assess your current level for free.
Can I work part-time while studying at UNITEN? +
Yes. International students in Malaysia can work up to 20 hours per week during semester breaks and public holidays, and in approved on-campus roles during term time. Always confirm current immigration rules before accepting any employment, as regulations can change.
What qualifications do I need to enter UNITEN directly into a degree? +
For direct degree entry, UNITEN requires completion of A-Levels, IB, Foundation, or equivalent pre-university qualifications with strong results in Maths and Sciences for engineering programmes. Students who hold a relevant Diploma may also apply for advanced entry. Contact us to assess your specific qualifications.
What is the EMGS fee and how is it different from the UNITEN registration fee? +
EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services) is the government agency that processes all international student visa applications. The EMGS fee (~RM 3,500) goes to EMGS — not UNITEN — and covers your Visa Approval Letter, student pass, and insurance. The UNITEN registration fee (~RM 2,000) is a separate university administrative charge. Both are paid as part of the upfront package before you arrive.
Is UNITEN's degree recognised internationally? +
Yes. UNITEN is fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and QS World Ranked #551. Engineering degrees are recognised by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). UNITEN's degrees are recognised across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, the UK (via Ecctis/NARIC), and Australia. The Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme is ranked #301–350 globally by QS by Subject.
How long does the student visa take and what do I need? +
The EMGS process typically takes 4–8 weeks after UNITEN submits your application. You must receive your Visa Approval Letter (VAL) before travelling to Malaysia — you cannot convert a tourist visa to a student pass. Required documents include passport (all pages, minimum 18 months validity), academic transcripts, and a bank statement. We track your EMGS status and notify you as soon as your VAL is ready.
